Kat Burki
The Beauty of Biochemistry
Kat Burki's products are based on biochemical research. What exactly does that mean?
At Kat Burki, we transfer the biochemical knowledge of healing processes in the gut to the skin - our largest external organ. We have identified three universal principles of healing: Active ingredient synergy, bioavailability and vitamin therapy. All our formulations follow these principles to achieve the fastest and best possible results for healthy skin. Our first hair care innovation - the revolutionary Bio-Ferment Scalp & Hair Treatment - marks a major breakthrough: biochemically based solutions for the first time for the hair, to unleash its full potential.
It can get extremely hot in summer and even light care can quickly seem “too much”. How can you adapt your routine without missing out on important steps?
In the summer months, the focus is on the microbiome, as the skin sweats more and is exposed to more intense UV radiation. The routine should be adjusted, starting with cleansers that specifically reduce excess bacteria and prevent clogged pores - like our KB5™ Calming Gel Cleanser. Then, a pH-balancing product helps to stabilize the skin barrier - our PH+ Enzyme Essence is designed to do just that while providing gentle enzyme exfoliation. Multitasking products such as our VitaBiome™ Active Skin Optimizer effectively combat impurities on the go and prevent new ones - a game changer for the summer.
Indispensable: vitamin C. It is an essential vitamin that the body does not produce itself and is not stored in the skin. It reduces pigmentation spots, fights free radicals and offers important protection against sun damage. A light day cream with a high dose of vitamin C is therefore the perfect way to round off your summer skincare routine.
What are the most important dos and don’ts in summer skincare?
- Exfoliation is essential to counteract keratinization and impurities caused by sweat. Our Dual Acid Peel with 10 % glycolic acid removes dead skin cells and provides a fresh, hydrated glow. At the same time, cold-pressed oils from avocado and grape seed protect against moisture loss.
- Vitamin C is essential for effective summer skincare. As a powerful antioxidant, it evens skin tone, boosts collagen production and protects the skin from environmental stress. Our best-selling Vitamin C Intensive Face Cream contains 15 % stable vitamin C - for protection and radiance.
- Heavy creams should be avoided during the day. Instead, use light formulations such as Vitamin C Intensive Face Cream, which is quickly absorbed and promotes a healthy complexion.
- And of course: use sunscreen every day and reapply regularly!
SOS tip for sun-stressed skin?
- Especially in summer, it is important to soothe inflammation and support the skin's natural defense mechanisms. In addition to microbiome balance and preventing impurities, the skin should not be stressed by aggressive products, chlorine, sun and wind. Care with healthy oils helps here, e.g. with a cleansing balm such as our Vitamin C Nourishing Cleansing Balm - it soothes inflammation and offers additional protection with vitamin C.
- A moisturizing overnight mask supports regeneration, as the skin works most intensively at night and is not stressed by the sun or sweat.
- Don't forget your hair: Our new Bio-Ferment Scalp & Hair Treatment strengthens and repairs hair and scalp with bio-ferments, peptides and vitamin therapy - like a boost of freshness for stressed hair.
What makes summer in Greenwich, Connecticut, special?
My garden! From the end of April, the first blossoms start to appear, and there are always new surprises until late summer. My husband and I love to expand the garden. Surrounded by nature and wildlife, I feel grounded and connected - it's a place where I love spending time outdoors.
Where are you going on vacation this summer?
We're going to Bridgehampton, NY. Not far geographically, but right on the ocean instead of the Sound. With great farmers markets, beaches and clear skies, it feels like another world. And best of all, we can take our dogs with us.
What beauty essentials are coming with us?
The best thing is that it's very informal there. You only need the essentials: a good hair serum, shampoo, conditioner, summer care products, sunscreen and a light summer fragrance - that's it.
Which beauty hack should more people know?
Mixing our Form Control™ Marine Collagen Gel with a complexion product. Add some mascara and a lip product and you have a natural summer look. The skin looks plumper, smoother and more even, the complexion is perfected and can be easily refreshed.
Which song instantly puts you in the vacation mood?
Van Morrison, Bob Marley and Sly & The Family Stone are the epitome of summer for me - but there's so much more. I love summer and quickly get into the vacation mood.
Your “Desert Island” product?
The Vitamin C Intensive Face Cream is my emergency all-rounder. Lightweight but effective in skin regeneration and protection - perfect for a desert island (and for everyday life).
Thank you very much for the interview.
